In March 2022, Hutton collaborated with Colchester Borough Council and local marketing agency Aphra to bring awareness and a community partnership to one of our latest building sites.
The Stanway Lakelands Community Centre, currently under construction, became part of a Colchester pop up artwork trail initiative where local and international artists were commissioned to create temporary art installations to draw attention to the towns capital works programme.
Each of the six pop-up artworks has a distinct visual personality stemming from the community or development site it has been made for. Local schoolchildren from Layer de la Haye Primary School have created animal art for the new Stanway Lakelands Centre, reflecting the centre’s parkland position and commitment to local wildlife.
The artwork was printed and installed on the building site heras fencing with the help of Hutton Construction Site Manager Andy Ellis.
Hutton’s Director Mathew Smith joined Aphra’s Director Matt Jolly to present the Year 6 children from Layer de la Haye Primary School with a commemorative framed piece of their artwork.
People can keep an eye out on social media and the Updating Colchester website to find out when and where the art will pop-up as well as downloading a route map to explore the projects here: colchester.gov.uk/updating-colchester.
