Erection of a new building comprising study centre, library, radio and television studio, meeting rooms, seven study bedrooms, two fellows flats and alterations to the Grade II listed boundary wall, external works and tree and shrub planting. The basement was formed using secant piling, enabling the basement construction to commence. This was left in place as a permanent solution to the external element of the basement. A temporary propping solution was put in place in conjunction with reducing levels to form the basement. Further piling took place at basement slab level and reinforced concrete box was formed for the basement construction.
The sump construction temporary piling as part of the basement construction. A drain pumping facility had to be installed at a lower level than the basement and this involved extensive temporary works to the contiguous piled wall to all excavations and construction of the reinforced concrete sump.
