What was our role?

We successfully completed the design and construction of a two-storey primary medical care facility at Beaulieu Healthcare Centre in Chelmsford, encompassing external works, drainage, and both hard and soft landscaping.

The construction featured:

• Piled foundations with a beam-and-block ground floor slab.
• Loadbearing masonry internal walls.
• Precast concrete (PCC) hollow-core first floor and PCC stairs.
• Timber roof trusses with a combination of slate roof tiling and flat roofing.
• External walls constructed with a blend of rainscreen Trespa cladding, render, aluminum cladding, facing brickwork, UPVC windows, and aluminum curtain walling.

Internally, the facility was equipped with:

• Screed floors finished with carpet tiles and vinyl coverings.
• Plastered walls and suspended ceilings.
• New mechanical and electrical (M&E) services throughout.
• Veneered internal doors.
• Integrated plumbing systems (IPS) and sanitaryware for WC areas.
• Fitted furniture for consultant rooms, storage areas, utility rooms, and the reception area.
• A passenger lift providing access between the ground and first floors.

Sustainability was a key focus, with the project achieving a BREEAM “Excellent” rating and an A+ Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating – the highest possible. These outcomes were achieved through:

• Enhanced U-values for walls, floors, roofs, and windows, exceeding statutory requirements.
• Photovoltaic (PV) panels installed on the roof.
• Energy-efficient lighting throughout the facility.
• Ventilation, heating, and cooling systems powered by external condensers and air handling units.

This modern healthcare facility showcases our commitment to sustainable construction, efficient design, and high-quality finishes.
